Life is beautiful and you don’t want to bog yourself down with unnecessary health problems. Today, your vital organs (kidney, heart, lungs, gall bladder, liver, stomach, intestines, may be working well, but they may not be tomorrow. Don’t take your good health today for granted. Take proper care of your body.

Good health isn’t just about healthy eating and exercise – it also includes having a positive mental health, healthy self-image and a healthy lifestyle.

Drink more water. Most of us actually don’t drink enough water every day. Water is essential for our body to function. Get enough sleep. When you don’t rest well, you compensate by eating more. Usually it’s junk food. Get enough rest and you don’t need to snack to stay awake. Also, lack of sleep causes premature aging, and you wouldn’t want that.Meditate. Meditation quietens your mind and calms your soul. Get quiet and read the Word of God. Exercise not just a few times a week, but every day. Movement is life.Eat more fruits. Fruits are a plethora of vitamins and minerals. Eat more vegetables. Like fruits, vegetables are important for the well-being of our health. Experts suggest that we should have 5-9 servings of fruits/vegetables. Purge negative people from your life. Positive mental health is an important part of a healthy life.Purge negativity from yourself. You don’t need negativity from yourself either. Listen in on the thoughts that come up in your mind and get rid of the negative thoughts you hear.Live a life with purpose. Positive health starts from within! Are you living a life of meaning? Are you living in line with your purpose?

Remedies For High Blood Pressure

There are major sign and symptoms of hypertension such as pain at the back of the head and neck or waking in the morning which soon disappear, dizziness, pain in the region of the heart, frequent urination, nervous tension, fatigue, difficulty in breathing.

Causes Of High Blood Pressure

While no one knows the exact cause of hypertension, there are specific factors that put you at risk of developing it. These include:

            Age. As you grow older, the greater risk of developing hypertension.

            Weight. Excessive weight expose you to greater risk of hypertension.

            Race. Caucasian are less prone to high blood pressure than African Americans.

            Heredity. If you family line has traces of high blood pressure, you are in greater risk

            Cigarette smoking. Smoking also causes hypertension, heart disease and cancer.

            Alcohol use. Bing drinking increases blood pressure and may likely cause HPB

            Sodium consumption. Taking too much salt may lead to hypertension

            A sedentary lifestyle. Couch potatoes increases risk for hypertension.

            Pregnancy. Some pregnant mothers experience high blood pressure.

            Oral contraceptives. Taking birth control pills may develop hypertension.

Home Remedies For High Blood Pressure

Garlic:- Two to three clones of garlic should be taken daily for 4 weeks.

Mistle Toe: The leave of mistletoe (what the Yoruba people call Albino Onisana) should be dried and powdered and two tablespoon taken into tea cup and warm water added leave or five minutes to simmer then filter and take morning and night for two weeks till symptoms stops.

Potato:- Boil potatoes with their skin and eat as your food on daily basis

Grape fruit:- The vitamin in this fruit will help to tone the arteries. It should be taken liberally.

Banana: Banana is an excellent home remedy for high blood pressure because of high content of potassium in it, which helps in controlling the blood pressure level. Eat at least two bananas daily.

Garlic have properties that help to control high blood pressure level and also reduce the cholesterol level. Try to eat one cloves of garlic daily.

Lemon: Taking lemon on regular bases helps to control hypertension. Lemon keeps the blood vessels soft and clears their rigidity in order to maintain lowers blood pressure. lemon reduces the chance of developing heart failure if taken regularly.

Honey: Taking honey reduces pressure from the heart and calming effect on the blood vessels there by reducing high blood pressure. Those suffering from hypertension must take at least two teaspoon of honey every day before meal. You can make a mixture of two spoon each of honey, ginger juice and cumin seed powder, and eat every day.

 How Does Stress Affect Health?

Controlling stress is important to our health. Unrelenting stress can turn to distress. Stress is the body’s reaction to any change that requires a physical, mental, or emotional adjustment or response. Stress is a normal part of life. Many events that happen to you and around you — and many things that you do to yourself — put stress on your body. Some stress can be good. It keeps us alert, motivated, and ready to avoid danger. But too much stress can make us sick.

Stress that continues without relief can lead to a condition called distress — a negative stress reaction. Distress can disturb the body’s internal balance or equilibrium, leading to physical symptoms such as headaches, an upset stomach, elevated blood pressure, chest pain, sexual dysfunction, and problems sleeping. Emotional problems can also result from distress. These problems include depression, panic attacks, or other forms of anxiety and worry. Research shows that stress also can bring on or worsen certain symptoms or diseases. Stress is linked to six of the leading causes of death: heart disease, cancer, lung ailments, accidents, cirrhosis of the liver, and even suicide.

Stress also becomes harmful when people engage in the compulsive use of substances or behaviors to try to relieve their stress. These substances or behaviors may include food, alcohol, tobacco, drugs, gambling, sex, shopping, and the Internet. Rather than relieving the stress and returning the body to a relaxed state, these substances and compulsive behaviors tend to keep the body in a stressed state causing more problems. The distressed person becomes trapped in a vicious circle.

Meditation in the Bible

Meditation for Christians is slightly different from those of eastern religions like Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and others. Christians are encouraged to meditate on God and his words and the bible is the only authoritative book that Christians should meditate upon because it contains the words of God. This means you must meditate by focusing on God’s word in the bible by reading it, understanding it, thinking about it, comparing it to your life and if you are not practicing what you read, you should adjust and replace your ways with what you read in the bible.

You should conclude your meditation by praying that God should help you to practice what you just read. Doing so has great rewards that will help you live a blissful life on earth and in the world after death. Philippians 4:8.

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy, meditate on these things.”

This scripture clearly shows that you should not dwell on negative things around you. You can be influenced by what you hear, what you see, what you read and even by people you associate with. This can make you to continually think on such things instead of positive things that will help you. You should only meditate on things that are true, virtuous, right, pure and just. By doing so, you will eventually find yourself doing positive things that will be right in the sight of God and man.

Psalm 1:1-3

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”

This is another important bible reference that encourages you to meditate. You should meditate day and night and during meditations you should dwell on the words in the bible. As you do so every day and night you will find that your life will begin to prosper in everything you do and you will begin to know how to always do the right thing at the right time. If this scripture is committed to memory and practiced, you will find that your life’s purpose will get fulfilled when you get to the end of your physical journey on earth.

Reducing Risks of Lung Cancer

 Lung cancer is the top cancer-related killer of men in America and the second cancer-related killer of women. What is lung cancer and how can you avoid it? Understanding what it is in combination with a few basic precautionary measures can help you from becoming part of the tragic number of people who die from its terrible effects.

Lung cancer is caused by an abnormal growth of cells on the lung tissue. The major risk of lung cancer is that these cells can break off from lung tissue and enter surrounding tissues. When mutated, cancerous cells enter surrounding tissues, these tissues can become infected and cancerous. Beyond the risk of premature death, lung cancer can inhibit your lung capacity (how much air you can bring into your lungs when you breath) and cause chronic, painful coughing.

You are not helpless against lung cancer. In fact, following a few basic rules can help you to reduce your risk and live a happy, healthy life. There are two major causes of lung cancer that you can do something about: smoking and viruses.

Quitting smoking is the first key to reduce your risk of lung cancer. When you smoke, the tobacco that is inhaled causes blackening of lung tissue and ultimately growth of cancerous cells. Eighty-seven percent of lung cancer is caused by mainstream smoke. Mainstream smoke is direct inhalation of cigarette smoke. Mainstream smoke results in a phenomenon called side-stream smoke, which is smoke that is not inhaled by the smoker but that drifts into air being breathed by non smokers. If you live or work with smokers, your risk of developing lung cancer increases by twenty to thirty percent. By helping to establish no smoking zones at your workplace or in your home you can reduce your risk.

Believe it or not, being careful about sexual practices and partners can help reduce your risk of lung cancer. Certain viruses, including human paillomavirus, can increase your risk of lung cancer. Human paillomavirus is sexually transmitted and can cause warts to grow both in genital areas and lung tissue. Protecting yourself and your partner will reduce your risk.

MALARIA

What is Malaria?

Malaria is a life-threatening disease. It is typically transmitted through the bite of an infected Anopheles mosquito. Infected mosquitoes carry the Plasmodium parasite. When this mosquito bites you, the parasite is released into your bloodstream.

Once the parasites are inside your body, they travel to the liver, where they mature. After several days, the mature parasites enter the bloodstream and begin to infect red blood cells. Within 48 to 72 hours, the parasites inside the red blood cells multiply, causing the infected cells to burst open. The parasites continue to infect red blood cells, resulting in symptoms that occur in two-to-three-day cycles.

Malaria is typically found in tropical and subtropical climates (e.g., Africa) where the parasites can live. The World Health Organization estimates that between 300 and 500 million cases of malaria are diagnosed each year. The disease kills 1 million people annually. In the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that 1,500 cases of malaria are reported each year. Most cases of malaria develop in people who travel to countries where malaria is more common.

What Causes Malaria?

Malaria can occur if a mosquito infected with the Plasmodium parasite bites you. In addition, an infected mother can pass the disease to her baby at birth. This is known as congenital malaria. Because malaria is transmitted by blood, it can also be transmitted through:

  • an organ transplant
  • a transfusion
  • shared use of needles or syringes

What Are the Symptoms of Malaria?

Symptoms of malaria typically develop within 10 days to four weeks following the infection. In some patients, symptoms may not develop for several months. Some malarial parasites can enter the body but will be dormant for long periods of time. Common symptoms of malaria include:

  • shaking chills that are moderate to severe
  • high fever
  • profuse sweating
  • headache
  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • diarrhea
  • anemia
  • muscle pain
  • convulsions
  • coma
  • bloody stools

How Is Malaria Treated?

Malaria is a life-threatening condition. Treatment for the disease is typically provided in a hospital. Your doctor will prescribe medications based on the type of parasite that you have. In some instances, the medication prescribed will not be effective. Drug-resistant parasites have been reported. These parasites make many drugs ineffective. If this occurs, your doctor may need to change medications or use more than one medication to treat your condition.
